2010 Hummer H3 Alpha – Search Our Huge Range Of Stock
MSRP: $33,502 average used price
The Hummer H3 is a smaller version of the Hummer H2. It was a last-ditch attempt by GM to recapture the market share the Hummer lost when gas prices went into the stratosphere. As we know now, the Hummer brand has been discontinued by GM, but there are still plenty of used ones around, and we will probably see them on the streets for at least the next ten years.

The original Hummer was modeled after the Humvee military vehicle. They are made to have the best off-road chops of any civilian vehicle. Their 9-inch ground clearance makes easy work of most terrain. Sadly, though, most of their customer base didn’t really need an off-road vehicle. This worked out great until they became a symbol of wasteful gas guzzling instead of a symbol of status or military support. The good news, though, is that you can get a pretty decent bargain on a used Hummer now.
The 2010 Hummer H3 Alpha has a 5.3 liter, V8 flex-fuel engine that produces 300 horsepower and 328 pound-feet of torque. It has 16-inch alloy wheels, oversized all-terrain tires, 4-wheel drive, and a 4-speed automatic transmission. It tows up to 6,000 pounds and goes from zero to sixty in 8.0 seconds. It is rated at 13 mpg in the city and 16 mpg on the highway.
The H3 Alpha comes with heated power-adjustable front seats, leather-trimmed steering wheel and seats, cruise control, keyless entry, foglights, hill-assist, standard air conditioning, and full skid plates. The audio system has 6 speakers, AM/FM radio, CD/MP3 player, satellite radio, and Bluetooth. There are many options and packages that upgrade the suspension, audio, and conveniences.
The H3 has side front airbags, side curtain airbags, anti-lock brakes, stability control, traction control, and the patented GM OnStar emergency communication system. In government tests, the H3 got 4 stars for front impact front passenger protection, and a perfect 5 stars in all other front and side impact tests.
Conclusions and driver feedback:
For a vehicle that is so impressive on the outside, the cabin décor is ordinary. The materials are high-quality, but the overall effect isn’t what one would expect from the outside. The seats, though, are very comfortable, and there is a lot of cabin space. There is plenty of headroom and legroom in the front and back seats. The total cargo space with the rear seats folded is 63 cubic feet.
The H3′s handling is what you would expect. It is a monster off-road. The steering and suspension are geared for off-road handling, making conventional driving very easy. The V8 is a very good engine for the H3. It accelerates well and cruises well at highway speeds without laboring. It is a bit loud, though.
What is unexpected here is the ride quality. The H3 may be modeled after a military jeep, but it doesn’t ride like a Jeep. While sitting inside, a passenger can easily forget that he or she is in an off-road vehicle inspired by the military. In military terms, you could drive the General’s wife to the officer’s club in the H3 without fear of arousing her ire.
The verdict: we hope the Hummer comes back someday. Especially if that means gas prices have gone down…
