2010 Buick LaCrosse CXL – Pre owned certified used

2010 was a generation change year for the Buick LaCrosse.  They used two different V6 engines during the first quarter and introduced an Ecotec 4-cyinder engine in the CX and in some FWD LaCrosses.  The 4-cylinder engine was not powerful enough, though, and was saved for smaller cars in the GM line thereafter.  Consequently, the first thing to ask about any used 2010 Buick LaCrosse is “does it have the 4-cylinder engine or the V6?”  Luckily, the Ecotec 4 was only put in versions of the CXL that have the optional front-wheel drive.

The 2010 Buick Lacrosse is a midsize sedan.  The CXL is the middle of three trim levels.  It has a 3.0 liter V6 engine that produces 255 horsepower.  It has 18-inch alloy wheels, all-wheel drive, and a 6-speed automatic transmission.  It is rated at 17 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway.

The Lacrosse CXL comes with a leather-wrapped tilt-telescope steering wheel, full-power accessories, foglamps, leather upholstery, ventilated power front seats with driver lumbar support, cruise control, auto-dimming side mirrors, and remote vehicle start.  The audio system has Bluetooth, 7 speakers, AM/FM/satellite radio, a CD/MP3 player, an audio jack, and a USB/iPod port.

The Lacrosse also comes with anti-lock brakes, side front airbags, side curtain airbags, stability control, traction control, and the OnStar emergency communications system.

Conclusions and driver feedback:

The interior design work was done in China.  Buick has gone to great lengths to make the LaCrosse their new crown jewel, and the interior reflects some of that work.  It is very luxurious, the materials are very expensive, the design is tasteful, and it even has ambient blue lighting for the cabin and the dash.  There is also wood trim in the design, and a nice sweeping curve to the dash.

There is plenty of space in the seating area, with ample headroom in both the front and rear seats, but the trunk is small for its segment, offering only 13 cubic feet.

The handling to ride ratio is very well done.  There is a sporty feel to the handling, with responsive steering and an ever-so-tight tweak to the suspension.  The ride is almost luxury soft, but with a hint of road feel and a little bit of sound from the wind and the road.  The all-wheel drive helps a lot in inclement weather or climates, too.  The 3.0 engine is adequate for most uses.  It won’t win any prizes at the track, but it won’t have you cursing at it when you want a little extra from the gas pedal, either.

Rear visibility can be problematic, but the optional rear parking sensors can help a lot.  Also, the look is quite conservative.  All in all, this is a decent car for the money, but nothing truly special.

The verdict: if you like Buicks, you will like the LaCrosse.  But you may want to wait until 2012 or 2013 when this model could fulfill the rather lofty goals Buick has for it.
