Police cars are used for a specific purpose and in most cases will be sold at a pre determined point in time or when they reach a certain number of miles. There are some advantages and savings to be made when buying ex police vehicles, they are almost certainly maintained to a  high standard in the vast majority of cases with the correct parts, highway patrol cars will also be fitted with quality non standard parts such as engine and suspension upgrades to increase performance.

It may also be considered a little bit cool to have an ex cop car in your garage… Most states and counties will sell or auction used stock so there are always buying opportunities.  The Ford Crown interceptors are a popular choice but you would need to consider the gas mileage,  parts supply would not be an issue, interiors are not going to be anything special and of course you can expect to find a few holes where non standard police parts have been removed. Taxi fleets often include ex police cars so that should tell you that your looking at some budget priced reliable motoring, Taxi drivers don’t make bad car buying decisions as a rule and they will more often than not get hundreds of thousands of miles out of their cars. When considering police versus civilian the choice is going to come down to personal preference, do you want an ex cop car or do you just want a car? Either way your going to have to judge each car on it’s merits.
