For a long time, the Honda Civic has had a reputation as one of the best small cars on the market. Reliability and excellent gas mileage have long been hallmarks of the Honda Civic. The 2011 Honda Civic Hybrid successfully continues that tradition.

The engine is a 1.3 liter, 4-cylinder hybrid engine that produces 110 horsepower. The instrument panel in the Civic Hybrid is unique. It has a digital speedometer and gas gauge just below the windshield, with a standard, analog tachometer just above the windshield. Some find this unusual at first, but most adjust pretty quickly.

The Hybrid includes many modern electronic features. It has bluetooth, a navigation system, and a stereo system with satellite radio and an iPod input. It also has the option of adding heated leather seats.

In keeping with its reputation, the Civic Hybrid has the standard modern safety features. It has traction control, stability control, front side airbags, side curtain airbags, and active front head restraints. It rated a perfect 5 stars out of 5 in front impact crash tests. In side impact tests, the front seat rated 4 stars while the back seat rated 5 stars.

As one might expect in a car that gets world-class mileage, the acceleration leaves a little to be desired. The Civic Hybrid is meant to be an economical vehicle, and it drives as one would expect a high-mileage car to drive. You won’t find the cushy ride of a bigger car, nor will you find the ride of a sports car. The 16-inch alloy wheels do give a different feel than the old Civic, though.

Conclusions and driver feedback:

The 2011 Honda Civic Hybrid is a very good car for what it is. The Civic hasn’t been one of the most popular small cars in history for nothing. Although the hybrid is a fairly new concept, Honda executes it quite well. The Civic Hybrid is as reliable as their old, standard engines.

Users of the Civic Hybrid find it to be a great car for the money. And, of course, the gas mileage is a big plus. Also, its increased size makes it roomier and easier to drive, though it is still a small car.

As for negative feedback, there is some, but most of it involves the sacrifices that you make when you choose a small, high-mileage car. The rear seats are still too small for many. The ride is a little stiff for some, which is also standard on small cars. Some would rather see it steer a little easier, too.

The bottom line, though, is that the 2011 Honda Civic Hybrid is, as in previous years, a great car for the money.
