The Toyota Camry Hybrid is a midsize sedan. It has a 2.4 liter 4-cylinder engine working in tandem with an electric motor. It is a front wheel drive vehicle with 16-inch steel wheels and a continuously variable transmission (CVT). The engine puts out 147 horsepower, and it is rated at 33 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway. The Camry Hybrid gets such great mileage in the city because it can run solely on the electric motor at slower speeds.

The Camry is equipped with a leather-wrapped, tilt-telescoping steering wheel, two zone automatic climate control, keyless entry and ignition, and a 6-speaker audio system with a CD/MP3 player and an audio jack. Industry people and drivers both like the Camry Hybrid. The gas mileage is great, and it is an extremely reliable vehicle. The acceleration is very good for a hybrid, and the ride is very smooth and quiet. The Camry gets high marks in every aspect of performance and reliability.

There is a lot of negative feedback, but it is a lot of little things. Most of it is centered on issues pertaining to either look or space. While the Camry is a midsize, the cabin still seems a bit cramped for a family of four. Insiders and consumers agree that the trunk space is somewhere between inadequate and abysmal.

The flip side of the smooth ride is that the steering can seem unresponsive at times. Also, the suspension can feel a bit detached from the road, especially in sharp turns. Also, there are complaints about the interior having some cheap materials, and nobody seems to be impressed with the car’s overall look.

All in all, though, feedback is generally positive. The Camry gives good acceleration while still getting great gas mileage. It is a bit expensive for its class, but still in the ballpark. Most of all, Toyota’s reputation for reliability still applies to the Camry. This is a great car for a couple or a small family.

The verdict: the Camry Hybrid is a solid choice for commuting or family use.
