2010 Volvo XC 60 T6 SUV

Market Value from: $30,803

The Volvo XC 60 is a small luxury crossover SUV.  2010 was its first year.  The T6 is the second of three trim levels, and is basically the lower trim with a turbocharged engine.  The added horsepower changes the dynamic of this vehicle and gives it a bit more of an “edge.”

The 2010 Volvo XC 60 T6 has a 3.3 liter, turbocharged V6 engine that produces 281 horsepower.  It has 18-inch alloy wheels, all-wheel drive, and a 6-speed automatic transmission with manual override.  It is rated at 16 mpg in the city, 22 mpg on the highway, and goes from zero to sixty in 7.1 seconds.

The XC 60 comes with a leather-wrapped, tilt-telescope steering wheel, 8-way power front bucket seats with manual lumbar support, split-folding rear seats, full power accessories, cruise control, leather upholstery, 2-zone climate control, foglights, and a trip computer.  The audio system has 8 speakers, AM/FM/satellite radio, a CD/MP3 player, an audio jack, USB/iPod port, and Bluetooth.

The Volvo XC also comes with antilock brakes with brake-assist, stability control with rollover protection, traction control, active front headrests, side front airbags, side curtain airbags, hill descent control, and “City Safety,” which can apply the brakes to avoid a frontal collision.  There are no tests available, but Volvo has long been known for making what many call the “safest cars on the road.”

Conclusions and driver feedback:

The cabin is very nice.  The design is attractive and the materials are top notch.  The seats are very comfortable.  There is plenty of headroom and legroom in both the front and rear seats.  If you fold the rear seats, you can get 67 cubic feet of cargo space, with 30.8 of it behind the seats.

The XC 60 is tweaked for passenger comfort and a luxury ride.  Despite those tweaks, it is still fun to drive with the more powerful engine.  It accelerates quite well, and cruises effortlessly down the highway at top speeds.  The steering is moderately responsive, and the suspension is the same.

Because of the comfort tweaks, there is a bit of body roll when negotiating corners or tight curves.  Even with the body roll, though, the XC 60 still handles well.  As for the ride, it is typical Volvo.  It is very smooth, but just a small notch below the standard European luxury ride.  It’s also $10,000 cheaper than a lot of European luxury cars, so we see it as a bargain.

All in all, this is a very nice family vehicle for those with a comfortable income.  It is safe, reliable, comfortable, and holds its market value well.  And that turbocharged engine provides just a wee bit of attitude for those who want to access it.

The verdict: load up the family and take a vacation.
