Cheapest Priced Deal 2012 Ford Mustang V6 Coupe Review & Ratings

2012 Ford Mustang V6 Coupe
MSRP $22,145

Ford brought back the Mustang last year, and it was one of the year’s best success stories.   One of the nicer aspects is that, even though there are some very expensive models as you go from pony to full-out muscle car, the base model is surprisingly affordable and still a lot of fun in its own right.

The Mustang V6 is the entry trim of 6 levels if you count the Shelby GT.  It has a 3.7 liter V6 engine that produces 305 horsepower.  It has 17-inch alloy wheels, rear wheel drive, and a 6-speed automatic transmission.   It is rated at 19 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway.

It comes with a tilting steering wheel, full-power accessories, cruise control, standard air conditioning, blind spot mirrors, keyless entry, and a limited slip rear differential.  The audio system has 4 speakers, AM/FM radio, CD/MP3 player, and an audio input jack.

There are plenty of upgrades available, and those looking for conveniences may want to go to the next trim level up, especially for the Ford Sync interface, but the car is engaging enough that many will be very satisfied with the basic trim.

The Mustang has anti-lock brakes, stability control, traction control, front side airbags, and side-spotter mirrors.  The Ford MyKey system is included for anyone who would even consider putting this car in the hands of a teenager in this era.  Safety tests aren’t available yet, but the 2011 model aced every test done by both the government and by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

Conclusions and driver feedback:

First of all, this is a Ford Mustang we are talking about here.  Ford put a lot of money and effort into making the re-introduction of one of its most beloved and legendary lines a success.  For 2012, they are doing all they can to retain the momentum they have attained with the Mustang.

Even in the base trim, the Mustang is both quick and fast.  The interior is well-designed, but some of the materials are cheaper, hard plastic.  This is actually quite retro, so it won’t detract from your experience.

The driver and front passenger seats have plenty of both headroom and legroom, while rear passengers don’t get nearly as much space.  It’s not quite like an old “2 + 2” style where the back “seat” is made for short hops only, but let it suffice to say that Ford isn’t wasting a lot of valuable performance and aerodynamic space with rear seat comfort.

The stars of this car are the classic Mustang design, the powerful engine, and the suspension.  This pony is born to run.  The Mustang is pretty much a tamed-down race car at a very good price, and makes older drivers remember why the “pony car” was king for awhile.  As for the ride quality, let’s just say it’s much better to be the driver than the passenger.

The verdict: a resounding yes.
