The PT Cruiser is tuned more for passenger comfort than sporty performance. The engine is barely adequate for acceleration and cruising at highway speed, but there is no extra punch. The steering is moderately responsive with a slight lag, and the suspension allows for generous body roll, reminiscent of a Chrysler van. The ride is very compliant and comfortable.

The LX was the base trim level for 2009. 79.8 inches of total head and legroom in the front seat, 80.4 inch total in the back seats: one of the most roomy cabins in the small wagon class. 21.6 cubic feet of cargo area behind seats, total of 62.7 with rear seat folded.
Small base engine gives barely adequate acceleration but cruises at highway speed without a lot of effort. Steering and suspension are tuned for low to medium response with the accent on passenger comfort.
