Best Prices On 2010 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT Regular Cab Pickup
The Dodge Ram has been around since 1981, and is currently in its fourth generation. For years, it was seen as the cellar-dweller in the fierce competition between the US “Big Three” automakers in their truck lines. It still lags behind Ford and Chevy in truck sales by a large margin. However, the latest generation of the Ram, which is now called a “Ram Truck” instead of a “Dodge Ram,” performs as well as the others in its market segment.

The 1500 SLT is the second of two trims for the 1500. The 1500 is the smallest of four full-sized pickups, and the cabin is the smallest of three cab choices. It is still a big truck, though. The 1500 SLT has a 4.7 liter V8 engine that produces 310 horsepower and 330 pound-feet of torque. It has 17-inch painted alloy wheels, rear-wheel drive, and a 5-speed automatic transmission. 4-wheel drive is also available. It is rated at 14 mpg in the city and 19 mpg on the highway, has a maximum towing capacity of 9100 pounds, and a payload capacity of 1340 pounds.
The 1500 SLT comes with a tilt-only steering wheel, a 40/20/40 bench seat, cloth upholstery, full power accessories, cruise control, a 12-volt outlet, chrome bumpers, and a trip computer. The audio system has 6 speakers, AM/FM/satellite radio, a CD/MP3 player, and an audio jack.
The Ram 1500 also comes with stability control, traction control, hill-start assist, antilock brakes, side front airbags, side curtain airbags, and trailer-sway control. The 1500 received perfect scores of 5 stars for front impact and side impact protection in government testing, but the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave it their second-worst rating of “marginal” for side impacts, while giving it their best rating of “good” for front impact.
Conclusions and driver feedback:
The interior is probably the best in its market segment. The cabin is made of high-quality materials that are softer than most pickups, and the design is visually attractive. The seats are very comfortable, but still give plenty of the support you expect from a pickup. There is plenty of space in the front seat, and the bed is 6.4 feet long.
The Ram handles like a truck, with body roll when cornering, and industrial-strength steering. The engine provides plenty of power and torque for a 1500. But the place where the Ram differentiates itself from its competition is the rear springs. The Ram performs like a truck, but its unique rear-spring design makes the ride more like that of a car.
All in all, the Ram Truck deserves to be mentioned with the industry leaders. They are making the truck experience more carlike for passengers with a gentler ride and a nicer interior. The side crash test results from the IIHS are problematic, though.
The verdict: great performance, but you might want to wait until they shore up the side impact ratings from the IIHS.
