2010 Cadillac CTS Performance Wagon – Best Price Deals Online

You really have to give Cadillac credit.  Over the years, they have been determined not to let their once-iconic product line become a dinosaur.  When gas prices went up, they redefined themselves by shelving their iconic, larger-than-life designs and started producing cars that were more in line with what was popular, while still retaining some of their intrinsic style.

In 2010, Cadillac reacted to the rebirth of the luxury wagon in Europe by putting out the CTS Wagon.  It is a 5-passenger luxury sport wagon with a hatchback.  The CTS Performance Wagon is the third of four similarly-priced trim levels.  It has a 3.6 liter V8 engine that produces 304 horsepower.  It has 18-inch wheels, rear-wheel drive, and a 6-speed manual transmission.  It is rated at 18 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway, and goes from zero to sixty in 7.0 seconds.

The CTS Performance Wagon has a leather-wrapped, tilt-telescope steering wheel with audio and cruise controls, heated 8-way front bucket seats with lumbar and height adjustment, a split-folding rear seat, leather upholstery, full power accessories, 12V outlets in the front, rear, and cargo areas, 2-zone climate control, a trip computer, a rear defogger, a roof rack, automatic headlights, and fog lights.  The Bose audio system has Bluetooth, 7 conventional speakers, a subwoofer, AM/FM/satellite radio, a CD/MP3 player, and audio jack, a USB/iPod port, and digital music storage.

The CTS Wagon also has anti-lock brakes, side front airbags, side curtain airbags, stability control, traction control, and the patented GM OnStar emergency communications system.  In both government tests and testing by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the CTS Wagon got perfect scores for front impact protection and side impact protection.

Conclusions and driver feedback:

The interior’s appearance is pure Cadillac luxury.  The design is attractive, while the leather and wood trim provide the finishing touches to soft, high-quality materials.  There is plenty of cabin space, with headroom and legroom in both the front and rear seats.  The hatchback part of the design doesn’t start until after the rear seat, so it doesn’t restrict rear headroom.  There are 25 cubic feet of cargo space behind the seats, and a total of slightly over 53 cubic feet if you fold the rear seat.

The drive and ride are sportier than your father’s Cadillac.  The 3.6 liter engine has more than enough power for ample acceleration and “smooth sailing” at highway speeds.  The steering is very responsive, and the suspension handles the weight of a heavy car with a minimum of body roll.

The ride is not as lush as the standard Cadillac ride, but the CTS Performance Wagon is close to pulling off the European “magic trick” of sporty handling and a luxury ride.  Sticklers may find the ride a bit stiff, but those with a bit of attitude think the ride is “just right.”

The verdict: we don’t know if the luxury wagon will catch on in the US, but we aren’t betting against it.  The CTS Performance Wagon is a good place to start.
