2011 Honda Fit Sport Review, Cheapest Price & Specs

2011 Honda Fit Sport

MSRP  $16,860

The Sport is the highest of two trim levels of the 2011 Honda Fit.  The Sport is zippier and more fun and is priced less than $2,000 over the base model.  The Fit Sport is a subcompact that provides a little bit of excitement behind the wheel without sacrificing gas mileage.

The 2011 Honda Fit Sport features a 1.5 liter, 4-cylinder engine that produces 117 horsepower.  It has 16-inch alloy wheels and a 5-speed automatic transmission with a manual override.

The Fit Sport has a rear spoiler that helps hug the road, giving both a sporty ride and keeping energy (and thus valuable fuel) from being dissipated needlessly.  It is rated 27 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway.

The interior has a lot of bells and whistles for a subcompact.  It has all power accessories, cruise control, and a leather-wrapped, tilt-telescoping steering wheel.  The Sport has an upgraded sound system with 6 speakers, CD/MP3 player, an auxiliary audio jack, and an iPod input.  The Fit Sport also has a touchscreen navigational system.

The Fit Sport comes with the requisite safety devices.  It has anti-lock brakes, side front air bags, side curtain airbags, traction control, and stability control.  It also has active front head restraints, which move with the head when impact makes it go forward.  That lessens the distance and the the impact of any whiplash that may occur.

Conclusions and driver feedback:

Everyone seems to like this car.  One driver who was 6-9 said he could fit into  this car comfortably.  The Fit sport is a subcompact, but the space is engineered very nicely.

The rear seat is extremely versitile, and it can be folded and unfolded into many different configurations to adjust to many different needs.  You can even fold the front passenger seat down if you need to transport objects close to eight feet long.

The Fit Sport definitely drives like its name would imply.  It handles extremely well, and accelerates nicely.  It is a fun car to drive, especially in the city.  The gas mileage is very good, too.  The Fit Sport is a rare combination of great performance that doesn’t sacrifice gas mileage to get there.

There are a few negatives to the Fit Sport, but they are minimal.  Even though the Fit Sport is very comfortable and very cleverly designed, it is still a subcompact, and it doesn’t have a lot of space.  The braking distance on the Fit Sport is only average; you may prefer better.

Also, while the Fit Sport is a great car to drive back and forth to work, it might not be the best car to take on a long trip, because it can be a little bit uncomfortable after a few hours.  Then again, you will save a lot of money on gas on that trip so it’s still a trade-off.

The verdict:  if you can handle a subcompact, the 2011 Honda Fit Sport will make you smile.
